At least two road sections in Ifugao and Kalinga in the Cordillera Administrative Region were closed to the public after heavy rains brought about by tropical storm “Falcon” and enhanced by the southwest monsoon caused soil erosion, the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council reported yesterday.
NDRRMC Executive Director Ricardo Jalad identified the closed roads as a portion of the Matteled Road in Barangay Dupligan, Tanudan, Ifugao; and Lakilak Road in Barangay Bugnay, Tinglayan, Kalinga.
The Matteled Road was closed around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday and clearing operations at the road section were put on hold due to continuous rains, Jalad said.
Only one lane was passable at the Lakilak Road after the soil erosion. Clearing operations at the road section were ongoing but only a portion of the road was open to the public due to an unstable backslope.
Falcon made landfall in Gattaran, Cagayan around 12:30 a.m. yesterday, said an NDRRMC situation report citing the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration.
Jalad, in the situation report, also said that five barangays were reported flooded in the Bicol region due to persistent rains. Ankle- to waist-deep floods were recorded in Barangays Sagarada Familia, Bulusan, Linao, Buga, and San Isidro, all in Libon, Albay.
A power interruption was experienced in Barangays Koreo, Bangaan, Sigayan, Bauyan, and Sugod in Sultan Naga Dimaporo in Lanao del Norte in Region 10 Tuesday, Jalad noted. (Martin Sadongdong)
