After playing for Gilas Pilipinas Youth in the recent FIBA Under-19 World Championship in Greece, Carl Tamayo, Terrence Fortea and Gerry Abadiano will spearhead National University’s title-retention bid in the 10th ASEAN School Games starting tomorrow (Friday) in Semarang, Indonesia.
The three will be joined by joined by PH U-17 standouts Harold Alarcon, Steve Nash Enriquez and Aaron Buensalida in the event that also gathered the top high school teams from Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam and the host country.
Other members of the team sponsored by Eduard Tio of Freego and Kevin Wong of Oriental Group of Companies are Kevin Quimbao. Jon Felicida, Jeffy Mailim, Reyland Torres, Menard Songcuya and Nathaniel Tulabot.
Goldwin Monteverde, who is part of the coaching staff of the Gilas Youth will be calling the shots for the Bullpups with Edster Sy as team manager.
The Bullpups earned the right to represent the country in the annual tournament after winning the Palarong Pambansa gold for the third straight time in Davao City last April.
The reigning UAAP champions arrived in Semarang yesterday confident of extending their reign with Tamayo, Fortea and Abadiano determined to give NU another title.
“We have the experience but we can’t be too sure this time because everybody is out to dethrone us,” said Tio, who is NU’s godfather in high school basketball. “Hope Carl, Terrence and Gerry will again deliver for us.”
The Bullpups open their title drive against the Malaysians on Friday before facing Indonesia on Saturday, Singapore on Sunday.
