Two persons were killed as tropical storm “Falcon” (international name “Danas”) dumped heavy rains that triggered flooding in Cagayan and nearby provinces.
Atanacio Macalan, head of the Cagayan Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, said the victims died of drowning.
Macalan said the 48-year-old male victim drowned while crossing the Dummum River in Gattaran, Cagayan Tuesday while the 42-year-old female victim drowned at the Abulug River in Abulug, Cagayan Wednesday.
Data from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said at least 81 families or 391 persons were affected by Falcon in 13 barangays in Cagayan Valley (Region 2) and the Cordillera Administrative Region.
Some of them sought refuge in evacuation centers while some opted to remain in their houses.
Falcon made landfall in Gattaran Wednesday morning and dumped heavy rains that caused the river systems in Cagayan and nearby provinces to swell.
The weather disturbance cancelled classes in Northern Luzon and Metro Manila. (Aaron Recuenco)
