LOPEZ, Quezon – Four members of a family and their driver were killed while their six companions were injured when their van figured in a collision in Barangay Malay before midnight here Thursday.
Police Major Glen Miralles, town chief of police, identified the fatalities as Paterno Carnate, 47, driver of the van; Raymundo Acebuche, 56; Maryjoy Claire Acebuche, 48, and Raquel Acebuche, 20, single, student, all of Laoang, Northern Samar.
Injured were Rafael Acebuche, 20; Roselyn Acebuche, 24; Bilito Guliman, 52; Joy Ericka Guliman, 15; Maritess Cerujano, 47, and Daisy Cerujano, 20, also all from Laoang.
Police investigation showed that a P&O passenger bus with license plates DXK-268 driven by Marlon Ricon, 37, of Barangay Pututan, Muntinlupa City traversing Maharlika Highway enroute to Bicol overtook a motorcycle and smashed into the Toyota van with license plates POX-822 carrying the victims who were bound for Manila.
The bus subsequently plowed into two motorcycles parked at the road shoulder.
Police have taken Ricon into custody and faces charges of reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide, physical injuries, and damage to property. (Danny Estacio)
