National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) President Rep. Prospero Pichay Jr. will grace the first Tempo Inter-Schools Rapid Chess Championships presented by Manila Prince Hotel on July 20.
Pichay has been invited to make the ceremonial moves with Tyne Dignadice, Manila Prince Hotel operations manager, during the opening ceremonies at 10 a.m.
Also in attendance are Grandmasters Eugene Torre and Jayson Gonzales.
The tournament, held to mark Tempo’s 37th anniversary, will be held in the grand ballroom of the Manila Prince Hotel located at the corner of United Nations Avenue and San Marcelino Street in Manila.
At least 200 students are expected to take part in the one-day, FIDE-rated event sanctioned by the NCFP.
Separate Open and women’s competitions will be held for college, high school and elementary students.
Aside from the P100,000 cash pot, trophies and medals will be awarded to the individual and team winners.
The event is sponsored by the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) and supported by the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA), SM Supermalls, Mighty Sports Apparel and Accessories, International Container Services, Inc. and 1-Pacman Party-list.
