The first Tempo Inter-Schools Rapid Chess Championships presented by Manila Prince Hotel will be held today with at least 200 students taking part in six divisions.
The one-day, FIDE-rated event, held to mark Tempo’s 37th anniversary, will be played at the grand ballroom of the Manila Prince Hotel, a 300-room business hotel located at the corner of United Nations Avenue and San Marcelino Street.
National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) president Rep. Prospero Pichay Jr., Manila Prince Hotel operations manager Tyne Dignadice, Grandmasters Eugene Torre and Jayson Gonzales will grace the opening ceremonies at 10 a.m.
Registration starts at 7 a.m.
Separate competition will be held in the Open and women’s sections for college, high school and elementary students.
Aside from the P100,000 cash pot, trophies will also be awarded to the overall school champion and six team champions.
The event is sponsored by the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) and supported by the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA), SM Supermalls, Mighty Sports Apparel and Accessories, International Container Services, Inc. and 1-Pacman Party-list.
