Cignal banked on its second stringers in routing Sta. Lucia, 25-8, 25-16, 25-22, on Saturday in the Philippine Superliga All Filipino Conference at The Arena in San Juan City.
Mylene Paat and Alohi Robins-Hardy fired 12 and 10 points for the HD Spikers, who hiked their tally to 4-5 and remained in the middle standings.
Paat built her performance with nine attacks while Robins-Hardy also had four aces and eight excellent sets.
Janine Marciano and May Luna combined for 17 points for Cignal
“Our players did a good job, we are very pleased that everybody stepped up especially our second stringers,” said Cignal assistant coach Rico De Guzman, who called the shots for head coach Edgard Barroga.
Sta. Lucia challenged Cignal in the third after Amanda Villanueva tied the match at 16-all for the Lady Realtors before Robins-Hardy took charge to give the HD Spikers the 21-18 upperhand.
Sta. Lucia fought back and even saved three matchpoints, 24-22, before Paat sealed the win for Cignal.
Sta. Lucia skidded to its ninth defeat in 10 games despite Roselle Baliton, Joy Dacoron and MJ Philips merging for 18 points.
