FEU is Inter-Schools champ

International Master Daniel Quizon and Women IM Marie Antoinette San Diego topped the premier divisions while Far Eastern University emerged as the team champion at the close of the first Tempo Inter-schools Rapid Chess Championships presented by Manila Prince Hotel Saturday.
Quizon, the 15-year-old pride of Dasmariñas National High School, captured the Open college title with 6.5 points while San Diego of Dela Salle clinched the Women college crown with 6 points.
The other individual winners are:
Eric Labog of the University of Perpetual Help, Open high school; Jerlyn Mar San Diego of First Uniting, girls’ high school; WFM Antonella Berthe Racasa of Victory Christian International School, Open elementary; and Daren dela Cruz of Vicente Villanueva Memorial School, girls’ elementary.
A total of 356 students from more than 40 schools took part in the one-day, FIDE event sponsored by the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) and supported by the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA), SM Supermalls, Mighty Sports, 1-Pacman Partylist and International Container Terminal Services Inc., (ICTSI).
Organizers also awarded University of Batangas with the best in uniform plum and FEU for sending the most number of participants.
Grandmasters Eugene Torre and Jayson Gonzales and Tempo Editor Rey Bancod awarded the trophies and medals to the winners.

Team champion: FEU 56 points, National University 52

Women’s college: WIM Marie Antoinette San Diego (DLSU), first; WIM Kylen Joy Mordido (DIHS), second; and WIM Bernadette Galas (DLSU), third;
Open high school: Eric Labog Jr. (UPHSD), first; Michael Concio Jr. (DIHS), second; and Mark Jay Bacojo (DIHS), third
