BACOLOD CITY – A lawyer was killed while his wife was seriously injured after they were shot by two unidentified men on a motorcycle in Barangay Poblacion, Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental Tuesday.
Slain was Anthony Trinidad, 53, of San Carlos City, Negros Occidental. Wounded was his wife, Novie Marie, 53.
Police Col. Raul Tacaca, director of Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office (Norppo), said the couple was on board a white sports utility vehicle on their way home when the attack happened.
Trinidad was driving the vehicle when he was allegedly shot at “close range” by one of the assailants, Tacaca said. His wife was also hit.
Trinidad lost control over the vehicle and allegedly hit a pedicab driven by 52-year-old Guilermo Magdasal, who sustained minor injuries.
Tacaca said the couple reportedly came from a court hearing in La Libertad town.
Recovered from the scene were seven fired cartridges of .45 caliber, and two deformed slugs of the same firearm.
Both victims sustained injuries and were rushed to a hospital, but the lawyer was declared dead upon arrival.
“We have not established yet the motive behind the killing,” he added.
Meanwhile, Police Executive Master Sergeant Jerome Delara, case investigator of Guihulngan City Police Station, said the couple was probably being followed by the assailants. (Glazyl Masculino)
