Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso signed Thursday two ordinances granting the release of P500 monthly financial assistance for Grade 12 students of city government-run schools, senior citizens, persons with disability and solo parents.
Domagoso signed these two ordinances during a ceremony at the Bulwagang Katipunan of the Manila City Hall.
The mayor noted that this was the first time that ordinances were passed by the Manila City Council and signed into law in only three weeks.
“Sa buong buhay ko, bilang lokal na mambabatas ng Lungsod ng Maynila, sa loob ng 18 taon, ngayon lang ako nakarinig ng ordinansa na naipasa sa loob lamang ng tatlong linggo,” Domagoso said.
Under Ordinance No. 8564, all qualified Grade 12 students enrolled in any public school in the City of Manila would receive P500 monthly from the local government.
To qualify, Grade 12 students must have a good standing, must be a bonafide resident and registered voter in the City of Manila. If the student is not of legal age to be a registered voter, the parent or legal guardian must be a registered voter.
Students may be disqualified from receiving the monthly financial assistance if they are dismissed from school before the end of the school year.
On the other hand, Ordinance No. 8565 grants a P500 monetary allowance for senior citizens, persons with disability, and solo parents who are residents of the City of Manila.
Senior citizens would each receive an ATM card to which their monthly assistance would be deposited.
For senior citizens to qualify, they must be at least 60 years old, must be a bona fide resident and registered voter of the City of Manila, and must be included in the master list of the Manila Office of the Senior Citizens Affairs.
Persons with disability and solo parents, meanwhile, must be bona fide residents and registered voters in the City of Manila. They must also be included in the master list of the Manila Department of Social Welfare.
Domagoso was joined by Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna, Majority Floor Leader Joel Chua and Members of the Manila City Council during the signing of the ordinances.
The ordinances were signed as part of the social amelioration stimulus package of the city government for Manilenos. (Erma Edera)
