The Muslim community yesterday expressed support for the clearing operations conducted by Manila Mayor Isko Moreno in Manila, Datu Basher Alonto, chairman of the Metro Manila Muslim Community for Justice and Peace, said.
“For me, people should understand the law. Vendors are not allowed to sell along the streets. Streets are built for vehicles, not for people,” Alonto said during the Balitaan sa Maynila media forum.
“This is also the start that every Filipino should understand not to abuse the law. I tell them to understand the law, we are not in control of it just because we are in business,” he added.
According to Alonto, the whole Muslim community supports the policies of the Moreno administration as it would help boost the tourism in the country’s capital.
“We are supporting him because we can see that it is the dream of every Manilenos, Manila is the nation’s capital,” he said.
“If our investors, tourists saw Manila not in order, they also saw the whole country not in order. So it is good to see what he is doing, ” Alonto added.
Since Domagoso assumed office, he conducted several operations in Manila to bring back the streets to the public. (Erma Edera)
