PALO ALTO, California – Floyd Mayweather is at it again, teasing fight
fans about returning to the ring and probably facing Manny Pacquiao in
a rematch when he was interviewed over the weekend in Baltimore,
Maryland.
“We don’t know…only will tell,” said Mayweather during an interview
with Showtime’s Jim Gray during the telecast of fast-rising
super-featherweight champion Gervonta Davis.
Mayweather’s statements came exactly a week after Pacquiao defeated
Keith Thurman on a split decision at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas,
fuelling speculations that a return meeting could be in place next.
It was interesting to note Mayweather left the venue even before the
official results was announced by Jimmy Lennon Jr.
Days after Mayweather, 42, came out with guns ablaze on social media,
accusing Pacquiao of piggyback riding on his immense popularity.
Pacquiao, 40, responded in kind and dared the 50-0 Mayweather to grant
him a return bout so they can settle the issue once and for all.
In May 2015, Mayweather beat Pacquiao on points.
Pacquiao will be 41 when he fights again in the first quarter of 2020.
Despite his age, Pacquiao came up with a head-turning performance
against Thurman, who was knocked down in the first round and almost
stopped in the tenth round with a crackling body shot.
Mayweather’s last legitimate appearance against a boxer was in Sept.
2015 opposite Andre Berto.
After Berto, Mayweather halted MMA idol Conor McGregor in August 2017
before engaging in a farcical duel with Japanese kickboxer Tenshin
