Phoenix Pulse will decide the fate of suspended star Calvin Abueva once legal procedures are made surrounding allegations of domestic abuse against his wife and children.
Abueva was involved in yet another controversy over the weekend when his wife Sam bared accusations on social media of multiple abuses and infidelity during their relationship that began in 2010.
The troubled cager has since described the revelations as false claims in a series of profanity-laced responses.
“The Phoenix Pulse Fuel Masters are deeply saddened by the recent allegations about the behavior of suspended player Calvin Abueva,” the team said in a statement.
“Claims of domestic violence and neglect have no place in our team and are seriously considered and mulled over by the company. Once a full and appropriate legal procedure of these allegations is conducted, the team will assess the situation further and from these decide Calvin’s fate with the team.”
While it has reached out to both sides, Phoenix stressed that it is up for Abueva to hold accountable and resolve the matter.
“We have consistently provided moral support to Calvin throughout these troubling times,” Phoenix also said. “We have been constantly reaching out to the distressed cager despite his unresponsiveness and absence from the team prior even to these recent untoward incidents.
“More importantly we will continue to reach out to assist the Abueva family in this difficult time.”
“The responsibility and cure for his behavior rests with Calvin. He can step up and accept responsibility for his actions and take responsibility for his recovery – it is his choice.”
Abueva is suspended indefinitely by the PBA for two incidents where he flashed a lewd gesture at Maika Rivera and for hitting TNT KaTropa import Terrence Jones. he was also fined a total of P70,000 for the two infractions.
He was also caught playing in a tournament in Montalban, Rizal without Phoenix’s consent, prompting the Games and Amusements Board to mull the possibility of revoking his license.
PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial said last month that Abueva’s reinstatement will depend on his sincereness to change his ways. (JONAS TERRADO)
