Two suspected robbers in Quezon City were killed in a shootout with policemen who tracked them through the GPS of a mobile phone they stole on Thursday night.
Quezon City Police District (QCPD) chief Brig. Gen. Joselito Esquivel, Jr. said the unidentified suspects died on the spot after engaging the cops in gunfight.
Initial report from QCPD’s Novaliches Police Station (PS-4) showed that complainant Dulce Austria was riding a motorcycle driven by his son Ralph along P. Dela Cruz Street in Barangay San Bartolome around 10:30 p.m. when three men also onboard a motorcycle blocked them.
According to the victims, the duo took at gunpoint their eco bag containing undetermined amount of money and Dulce’s mobile phone, and their motorcycle.
The victims immediately reported the incident to the police. The elder Austria told them that her phone’s global positioning system (GPS) was active.
PS-4 personnel immediately tracked the whereabouts of the robbers and found that they were still roaming in the area of Barangay San Bartolome.
Around 11:30 p.m., responding officers of PS-4 went to the location and saw three men on two motorcycles at the corner of St. Andrew and St. Jude Streets.
However, the group apparently noticed the approaching policemen, prompting them to draw their firearms and fire shots at the operatives.
A brief shootout ensued which killed two of the suspects. Their other cohort managed to escape using a motorcycle.
A manhunt has been launched to identify and locate the suspect who escaped. (Alexandria San Juan)
