Around 429 public daycare center workers in Manila are set to receive a P2,000 allowance increase in the last quarter of 2019, Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso vowed on Friday.
From their original P7,000 monthly allowance, Domagoso said these daycare workers will finally receive P9,000 monthly starting October this year.
This, after the Mayor asked the Manila City Council to pass an ordinance to appropriate P10 million from the special education fund for the allowance increase during a meeting with the City School Board.
“One of the hardest students to teach is the small kids. A little augmentation to their economic needs sa buhay will be a big help coming from us,” Domagoso said.
“It has always been a delayed P7,000 monthly allowance, so in our own little way, we wanted to increase it,” he added.
Domagoso also asked the City Council to appropriate P2 million from the special education fund for the purchase of TV sets, digital TV converter boxes, and audio-visual equipment.
“Our hope now is someday, somehow, these daycare workers would finally become regular employees. We don’t know when, but we’ll take these things one day at a time,” the mayor said. (Erma Edera)
