BACOLOD CITY – An elderly man was allegedly hacked and burned to death by his son in Barangay Mamburao, Pamplona, Negros Oriental Friday.
Police identified the fatality as Pedro Regala, 78, of the same barangay.
Initial investigation of Pamplona Municipal Police Station showed that the victim was on his way to his son’s house when suspect, Solini, 42, allegedly attacked him with a bladed weapon.
Responding policemen found the victim’s burned remains in a grassy area.
Police arrested Solini in pursuit operation and confiscated from him a bolo, which authorities believed he used in the crime.
According to the police, the suspect is suffering from an alleged mental illness, and that he didn’t recognize the victim as his father.
Solini is now detained at the police station pending the filing of appropriate charges. (Glazyl Masculino)
