Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas executive director and former Philippine Basketball Association commissioner Sonny Barrios was appointed the second deputy secretary general in charge of administrative affairs, Philippine Olympic Committee President Bambol Tolentino announced on Tuesday.
The announcement came during the POC’s first General Assembly under Tolentino’s leadership at the Diamond Hotel in Manila where key positions were filled including the appointment of Philippine Football Federation secretary general Edwin Gastanes as POC secretary general.
Other appointees announced and approved during the general assembly were Mayor Richard Gomez as deputy secretary general for National Sports Association (NSA) affairs, Atty. Alberto Agra as legal counsel, Atty. Avelino Sumagui as assistant legal counsel, Chiqui Roa-Puno as spokesperson, Ed Picson as communications director, Ret. Gen. Lucas Managuelod as membership and accreditation commission chairman along with members Valeriano Floro, Atty. Avelino Sumagui and Art Aro; and Ricky Vargas as constitution amendments commission chairman along with members Butch Pichay, Atty. Alberto Agra, Chito Loyzaga, Gomez and Atty. Wharton Chan.
Thirty five member representatives from the NSAs attended the assembly as well as International Olympic Committee representative to the Philippines Mikee Cojuangco Jaworski and predecessor Frank Elizalde. (KRISTEL SATUMBAGA)
