A village chairman was gunned down Friday morning by two motorcycle-riding armed men in Tondo, Manila.
Police Senior Master Sergeant Bernardo Cayabyab of Manila Police District homicide section identified the victim as Alfredo Lansigan, 48, chairman of Barangay 161, Zone 14, Gagalangin, Tondo.
He was rushed to Chinese General Hospital but was declared dead on arrival due to five gunshot wounds in different parts of the body.
Cayabyab said the incident happened at around 9:30 a.m. on August 16 along Dagupan Extension corner Solis Street, Gagalangin.
A closed-circuit television footage showed Lansingan was riding his motorcycle when two men onboard a motorbike without plate number shot him repeatedly until he fell on the pavement. The suspects immediately sped off to Solis Street, Tondo.
In an interview, the chairman’s secretary, Joan Santos, said Lansingan received death threats one week before the incident.
Santos also said that someone called up the chairman on his phone and he immediately left their house.
According to Cayabyab, they are still establishing the motive behind the killing.
Recovered from the crime scene were four fired cartridges. (Erma Edera)
