University of Perpetual Help DALTA System athletic director Sammy Acaylar said on Tuesday that high school coach Myk Saguiguit will be the interim coach of the Altas while head mentor Frankie Lim is still ‘on leave’.
Acaylar did not give specifics behind the decision of Perpetual Help president Anthony Tamayo except that they were instructed to be more active in managing the basketball team following the team’s embarrassing 102-56 defeat to defending champion San Beda University on Friday.
That loss pulled the Altas down in the standings with a 2-5 record.
“Actually, the (Perpetual Help) executive committee decided that coach Frankie is on leave. The reason behind is I don’t know,” said Acaylar in a press briefing during halftime of the Altas versus Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals Tuesday at The Arena in San Juan.
“We just followed instruction, and only the management knows the reason,” added Acaylar, who have not talked to Lim as management informed the latter of Tamayo’s decision after the Altas game against defending three-time champion San Beda last Friday.
Lim’s ‘on leave’ status could be blamed on the team’s struggling start, especially after absorbing a huge 46-point defeat to the Red Lions.
Lim, a former champion coach of San Beda, joined Perpetual Help last season and steered the back to Final last year. The Altas, however, lost to the eventual champion Red Lions. (WAYLON GALVEZ)
