A day after missing the game of University of Perpetual Help System DALTA, coach Frankie Lim rejoined the team practice session yesterday at the UPHSD gym in Las Piñas City, ending speculation that he’s on the way out.
Lim did not give the reason why he went on leave on the day that saw the Altas escape with an 88-87 win over the Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals on Tuesday.
“Back in practice. Preparing for our next game,” was his short reply when asked about his leave.
During the Altas-Generals game, Perpetual Help athletic director Sammy Acaylar emphasized that Lim was ‘on leave’ and Myk Saguiguit – the junior’s coach and member of Lim’s coaching staff – was designated as interim coach.
“Actually, the (Perpetual Help) executive committee decided that coach Frankie is on leave. The reason behind is I don’t know. We just followed instruction, and only the management knows the reason,” said Acaylar.
Sources said that Lim and school president Anthony Tamayo had a misunderstanding that led to the latter taking a leave after the Altas suffered 102-56 beatdown from the Red Lions last Friday.
Perpetual Help sports consultant and NCAA management committee (MANCOM) representative Frank Gusi refused to comment on the issue, but he said that they want to focus on the games ahead.
“UPHSD coach Frankie Lim is back with the Altas after missing the game against the EAC Generals last Tuesday as he was on leave. We have to move on and focus on our campaign in the NCAA men’s basketball tournament,” Gusi said in a statement.
