LUCENA CITY, Quezon – The vice mayor of San Andres, this province, was gunned inside his house in Calmar Homes Subdivision, Barangay Kanlurang Mayao here last Tuesday.
Police Lt. Col. Reydante Ariza, city police chief, identified the victim as Sergio “Popoy” Emprese, 60.
Investigation showed that Emprese was resting on a sofa in the living room at around 8:40 p.m. when a man arrived and entered the house.
The suspect approached and shot the victim in the head.
Emprese’s sister went out of her room and saw the gunman but she was threatened. The suspect escaped.
The victim was taken to a hospital here where he died.
Emprese had just arrived from Batangas before he was killed.
The victim had received death threats prior to his murder. Emprese had security, but no one was around to guard him before the incident.
Emprese had completed three terms as mayor of San Andres. He ran for vice mayor in the last elections and won.
Police are conducting in-depth investigation on the killing. (Danny Estacio)
