CEBU CITY – Fifteen persons, including six Japanese, were injured when a tourist van collided with a passenger jeepney in Lapu-Lapu City early yesterday morning.
The Japanese were aboard the van, which was supposed to bring the tourists to the airport.
Melvin Eyas, investigator of the city Traffic Management Office, said the van was driven by Albert Contratista.
Contratista’s child was also in the van during the incident which happened on M.L. Quezon Ave. in front of the Mactan Export Processing Zone.
Six workers of MEPZ were aboard the jeepney which was driven by 56-year-old Jefferson Utani Dayuday.
Dayuday was pinned in his seat and it took time before he was pulled out by rescuers from the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office, Philippine Red Cross, and the Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation.
Eyas said the van was reportedly running at high speed when the collision occurred.
Investigation is still ongoing to determine who was at fault, Eyas said.
