CEBU CITY – Police are checking reports that an absent without official leave policeman was behind last Tuesday’s killing of a top executive of an investment firm based in Davao City.
Police Major Christian Torres, chief of the Balamban Police Station, said they have received information regarding the identity of the supposed killer of Armando Oppus.
The body of Oppus, 34, a resident of Doña Vicenta in Davao City, was dumped on the Cebu Transcentral Highway in Sitio Buli, Barangay Cansamoroy, Balamban with bullet wounds in the chest and head.
The victim was hogtied and his face was covered with a boxer shorts. His sports utility vehicle was also burned in a nearby cliff.
Police said Oppus was the chief executive officer of Crowd Royals Real Estate Services which was one of the 22 firms that had been identified by Securities and Exchange Commission engaging in investment scams.
Oppus was facing a case for a large-scale estafa, police said.
Torres said they were told that the culprit, who was previously assigned at the Davao City Police Office, invested a huge amount of money in Oppus’ firm but the promised “double your money” return was not fulfilled. (Calvin Cordova)
