Kib Montalbo made sure his debut would be memorable as the former La Salle star helped power Makati to a pulsating 96-94 win over Pampanga with a buzzet-beating jumper in the MPBL Lakan Season Wednesday at the JCSGO Gym in Quezon City.
Montalbo scored the last four points of the game, including the dagger trey that propelled the Super Crunch to their fourth straight win and 8th overall in 9 games in the northern division of the tournament put up by Senator Manny Pacquiao with PBA legend and former MVP Kenneth Duremdes serving as commissioner.
The feat was doubly significant for Montalbo as it was his first game winner in a flourishing career.
Makati battled back in the game dominated for most part by the Giant Lanterns, who were held without a field goal for more than four minutes, resulting to a 14-3 run capped by Montalbo’s game winner.
Meantime, the Caloocan Supremos extended their winning streak to five after humbling the Paranaque Patriots, 90-75, in the other game.
Almond Vosotros set an MPBL personal-high of 35 points, including a steady 6-of-9 shooting from beyond the arc as the Supremos improved their win-loss record to 6-5.
Pasig-Sta. Lucia Realty outplayed Quezon City, 91-82, to get back on the winning track.
The Realtors improved their win-loss record to 7-3 to keep a hold of the No. 4 spot in the northern division.
