A 40-year-old barangay chairman was killed while three others were wounded in a shooting incident in Barangay Bagabag, Sto. Tomas, Isabela last Wednesday.
Police Capt. Frances Littaua, Isabela police spokesperson, identified the fatality as Barangay Bubug, Sto. Tomas, Isabela chairman Manuel Ramento.
Wounded, on the other hand, were May Glenn Padre, a barangay “kagawad” or councilor; Noimi Gumtang, 26; and Althea Nicole Gumtang, 6, all of Barangay Bubug.
Investigation revealed that the victims were on their way home onboard a sports utility vehicle at around 11:30 p.m. when unidentified armed men opened fire at them upon reaching Barangay Bagabag.
Ramento and Padre sustained multiple bullet wounds while Althea was wounded in the left foot.
The victims were taken to a hospital where Ramento was declared dead.
Padre was later transferred to another hospital.
Police are investigating the incident and conducting follow-up operations for the possible identification and arrest of the suspects. (Liezle Basa Iñigo)
