National Capital Region Police Office chief Police Major Gen. Guillermo Eleazar has urged millennials to use their social media savvy and influence to help the National Capital Region Police Office discipline abusive cops and reward good deeds of lawmen.
Eleazar urged them to post or share the bad behavior and the good practices of policemen on the streets and in various communities, especially in Metro Manila.
“Your NCRPO is now social media active. In fact, we were able to monitor, identify, and punish or reward our policemen through the photos and videos posted and shared in various social media platforms,” said Eleazar.
For instance, he said, a policeman bullied a call center agent in San Juan City and a policeman blocked and poked a gun at a motorist in Quezon City. Both cops were relieved from their posts and are now facing administrative charges.
On the other hand, he said, there were also several policemen who were awarded due to viral videos of their good deeds.
Eleazar cited the case of a Manila policeman who chased a snatcher in Manila and another cop who prevented a suicide of a man in Paranaque City. The two policemen became the awardees of the newly-launched “Pulis Magiting” program of the NCRPO.
“While we are quick in punishing abusive policemen, we are also quick in rewarding those who deserve award,” said Eleazar.
The NCRPO chief stressed the importance of cooperation and participation of the netizens, particularly the millennials, in improving the policing in Metro Manila.
“These are all about the future of their security and the future of peace and order in Metro Manila. They could do a lot in transforming the police organization into a professional police force, a police force with true sense of courage, public service and integrity,” said Eleazar.
“Our goal is for every policeman to have a real sense of the meaning of integrity, that is, doing what is good and right even if no one is looking,” he stressed. (Aaron Recuenco)
