Delegates from 11 Southeast Asian Games nations went to check out the facilities that are going to be used during the country’s hosting of the 30th edition of the biennial sportsfest.
Philippine Olympic Committee chairman and Tagaytay congressman Bambol Tolentino said on Thursday that venues around the New Clark City in Capas, Tarlac and Subic, as well as those in Metro Manila, were subject for inspection of the technical delegates.
The BMX and skateboarding tracks in Tagaytay City were also visited by the delegates, who, a day earlier, had met and discussed crucial issues relative to the Philippiuens’ hosting scheduled Nov. 30-Dec. 11.
“The BMX and skateboarding are 95 percent and 80 percent done,” said Tolentino, stressing that the mountain bike track will be done in the days leading to the scheduled competition.
“It is useless to build it (mountain bike track) this early because of the rains. Besides, it is easy to get it ready for competition,” he added.
Facilities all over Metro Manila are being spruced up, including in the 84-year-old Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Manila.
But what is expected to make a lasting impression to the delegates are the 20,000-capacity track stadium and 2,000-seater aquatics center. (Nick Giongco)
