A police patrolman was shot dead Thursday afternoon by a two motorcycle-riding men while on his way to fetch his children from school in Quezon City.
Pat. Michael delos Reyes, 36, a resident of Sitio Pajo in Barangay Baesa, Quezon City, died on the spot from multiple gunshot wounds in the body, police said.
Lt. Col. Rodrigo Soriano, Quezon City Police Station 2 chief, said Delos Reyes was traversing Taal Street in Barangay Alicia onboard his black motorcycle past 1:20 p.m. when he was attacked.
According to a witness, two motorcycle-riding men, both wearing helmets, appeared beside the victim and repeatedly shot him at close range.
The gunmen immediately sped off and escaped while Delos Reyes fell bloodied on the ground.
Recovered from the crime scene were seven .45-caliber bullet casings and some bullet fragments.
Probers said Delos Reyes was assigned to Cubao Police Station (PS-7) of the Quezon City Police District before he was reassigned to Mindanao in February 2017.
Investigators said they have yet to determine if Delos Reyes went absent without official leave after his reassignment.
Further investigation is ongoing to identify and arrest the gunmen and to establish the motive behind the killing. (Alexandria San Juan)
