Malacañang yesterday clarified that President Duterte will certify, not the Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity or Expression, but an anti-discrimination measure that will cover every Filipino and not something that will only support a particular class in society.
Duterte on Tuesday had said that he will certify as urgent the SOGIE bill.
Presidential spokesman Salvador Panelo said Duterte meant to certify an anti-discrimination law similar to what is being implemented in the Chief Executive’s hometown Davao City.
“Actually what he meant was an anti-discrimination law or bill, not the SOGIE bill. Not that one,” Panelo said. “He was referring – in fact, he said, ‘I have that, we have that in Davao.’ So he was really, specifically referring to that anti-discrimination law in Davao,” he added.
“Kasi ‘yung anti-discrimination law sa Davao, it refers to all. You cannot discriminate the handicapped, special children, ‘yung merong third gender. Sa lahat.”
Panelo said that it would be better if the anti-discrimination law being pushed in Congress would cover a broader audience since the SOGIE bill may have problems in legislation. (Argyll Geducos)
