BACOLOD CITY – A farmer died while his three companions were injured after they were struck by lightning in a rice field in Barangay Odiong, Moises Padilla, Negros Occidental last Wednesday.
Killed was Saldy Marfil, 42. Injured were Rudfil Espartero, 33, his brother Rodrigo, 31, and Juanito Magsipoc, 30.
Police Capt. Hancel Lumandaz, town police chief, said a heavy downpour occurred around 6:30 a.m. while the victims were about to harvest some crops.
Since it was already raining, they decided to go home.
Marfil walked first and the three others were behind him when he was allegedly directly hit by lightning, Lumandaz said.
Marfil died on the spot. His three companions were taken to the hospital.
The injured were discharged from the hospital in the afternoon. (Glazyl Masculino)
