Defending champion Creamline tries to keep its unbeaten streak going when it clashes newcomer Chef’s Classics in the PVL Open Conference today at The Arena in San Juan.
Alyssa Valdez and Jia Morado see action for the last time this month for Creamline before they joining the Philippine pool members in a training camp in Thailand in preparation for the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games.
The Cool Smashers are favored to prevail again against the winless Red Spikers when they faceoff at 2 p.m., before Pacifictown-Army and Air Force collide in the other match at 4 p.m.
Part of that eight-game win streak of Creamline was a 66-minute victory versus Chef’s Classics, 25-12, 25-5, 25-15, in their first meeting last Aug. 18 as Valdez and Morada led a balanced attack.
Aside from the two, the Cool Smashers also have veteran players in Michele Gumabao, Risa Sato, Jema Galanza, Ced Domingo, libero Kyla Atienza and second setter Kyle Negrito.
Still, the newcomer Chef’s Classics will still try to claim its first win behind team skipper Justine Tiu and newcomer Nieza Viray, the San Beda Lady Spikers ace who will make his PVL debut.
As for PacificTown-Army, the team has bounced back from a three-game skid to keep its playoff hopes as wins over Chef’s Classics and BaliPure gave Lady Troopers a 4-3 card, half-a-game behind fourth-running BanKo-Perlas (5-3).
On the other hand, the Jet Spikers, are also coming off a pair of victories that snapped a five-game skid after Air Force downed Chef’s Classics and upended the young Choco Mucho.
