Bureau of Immigration agents arrested in the tourist island destination of Boracay in Aklan an Indian employed as a chef in one of the restaurants there for working without a permit and visa.
BI intelligence chief Fortunato S. Manahan Jr. identified the alien as Vincent Joseph Mondal, 42, who is allegedly an overstaying and undocumented alien.
According to him, the foreigner was caught last week in the act of working as a chief cook at the Namaster Restaurant located beside the Boracay public market.
“He was unable to present his passport or any travel document when our agents confronted him to verify his immigration status,” he added.
BI intelligence officer Jude Hinolan, who led the arresting team, said Mondal was the subject of a complaint filed with the bureau alleging he entered the country via the backdoor.
“He is an illegal entrant as he did not undergo inspection by immigration authorities when he last arrived in the country,” he stated.
It was determined that the Indian was already banned from entering the country previously when he was placed in the immigration blacklist six years ago for overstaying his visa and failure to pay the assessed fines and penalties.
He was later brought to the BI detention center where he is still confined pending summary deportation proceedings. (Jun Ramirez)
