The southwest monsoon or “habagat” will be the dominant weather system across the country as tropical depression “Marilyn” left the Philippine Area of Responsibility last Saturday.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration said Marilyn has weakened into a low-pressure area while exiting the PAR.
PAGASA is not discounting a possible re-intensification and re-entry of the weather disturbance in the coming days.
The habagat will bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Metro Manila, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan, Albay, Catanduanes, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Sorsogon, Masbate, Aklan, Antique, Negros Occidental, Capiz, Guimaras, Iloilo, Zambales, and Bataan.
Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers will persist across the rest of the country due to localized thunderstorms.
A gale warning remains in effect as sea travel remains risky over some seaboards of the country.
The seaboards of Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, Negros Occidental, Guimaras, Iloilo, Aklan, Antique, Palawan, Occidental Mindoro, Surigao del Sur, Davao Oriental, and Davao Occidental may experience rough to very rough conditions due to the habagat.
PAGASA advised fishing boats and other small sea craft not to venture out into the sea, while larger sea vessels were asked to take extra precaution against big waves.
Marilyn is the third tropical cyclone to enter PAR in September. At least one more tropical cyclone may enter the country’s vicinity this month. (Ellalyn V. Ruiz)
