Lawmakers want to declare Sept. 11 of every year a special non-working holiday in the province of Ilocos Norte to commemorate the birth anniversary of former President Ferdinand Edralin Marcos.
Ilocos Norte Rep. Angelo Marcos Barba, and Ilocos Norte Rep. Ria Fariñas and her brother, Probinsyano Ako Rep. Rudys Caesar “Baby Boy” Fariñas, separately filed bills seeking to declare Sept. 11 as the “President Ferdinand Edralin Marcos Day.”
Barba said he filed House Bill No. 2218 “as a salute to a brilliant man whose vision for the country remains unparalleled.”
Marcos, the country’s 10th president, was born on Sept. 11, 1917 in Sarrat, Ilocos Norte.
“Under his leadership, we were ahead of our time – in agriculture, education, infrastructure, energy production, and foreign policy,” Barba cited.
“His extraordinary display of leadership and incomparable brilliance serves as an inspiration to his fellow Ilocanos. He is a man of vision, action and wisdom. Thus, it is only necessary that his life, works, remarkable achievements and inherent love for his fellow Ilocanos be remembered,” he stressed.
The Fariñases filed House Bill 4595, which is the same version of the measure which was approved on third reading by the House of Representatives during the previous 17th Congress on May 2, 2018.
“For the people of Ilocos Norte, the young and promising Marcos has brought pride to the province and served as inspiration for young leaders to exemplify his leadership and governance administration,” Reps. Ria and Rudys Caesar said in pushing for the approval of HB 4595. (Ali Macabalang)
