Malacañang suspended work in government offices in the Executive branch Monday afternoon in celebration of the Family Week.
Memorandum Circular No. 65 declaring the work suspension was signed by Executive Secretary Salvador Panelo upon the order of President Duterte.
“Pursuant to Proclamation No. 60 (Series 1992) which declared the last week of September of every year as Family Week, and in order to afford government workers more time to spend with their families on this, the first day of the 27th National Family Week Celebration, work in government offices in the Executive Branch on 23 September 2019 is hereby suspended from 3 o’clock in the afternoon onwards,” the memorandum said.
Agencies involved in the delivery of basic and health services, disaster preparedness and response, and performance of vital services, however, must continue their operations and render the necessary services.
The suspension of work in other branches of government and independent commissions meantime is left to the sound discretion of their respective heads, the Palace added.
The order, signed by Medialdea yesterday, took effect immediately.
In 1992, then President Fidel Ramos issued Proclamation No. 60 declaring the last week of September of every year as Family Week. The proclamation declares government’s policy “to fortify solidarity in the family and actively work for its total development.”
“There is a need to call public attention and ensure nationwide awareness of the importance of the family,” the Ramos-era proclamation said. (Genalyn Kabiling)
