Commuters have expressed frustration over the worsening traffic condition in some portions of the South Luzon Expressway as the construction of the Skyway extension project started Sep. 24.
Moriah Marcelo, a 22-year-old operations supervisor in a business process outsourcing company, said that since the construction of the Skyway extension, she started to allot four to five hours of travel time whenever she goes to work in Taguig City.
Before, it just usually took her some two-and-a-half hours whenever she would leave home in Sta. Rosa City, Laguna, she said.
“But now, the traffic is different,” Marcelo said. “If I would not adjust my travel time, I would report late at work. And that may cost me my job,” she added.
Last Wednesday morning, commuters from provinces south of Metro Manila who passed through the northbound lane of SLEX reportedly experienced standstill traffic.
This was reportedly caused by the start of the construction of an extension project on SLEX and East Service Road in Muntinlupa City. It led to some road closures, including the outermost lane of SLEX after the Alabang Viaduct and one lane of the East Service Road.
Marcelo, who did not expect that the road closure would take her some five hours on the road, reported about two hours and 15 minutes late for work.
A certain Pia Calupitan posted on Twitter yesterday a video showing a bumper-to-bumper traffic on SLEX. She called it “Carmageddon.”
“Just leave early…Let’s just have some good vibes because we have nothing to do anymore. Let’s just adjust to the situation,” she said.
