MANDALUYONG CITY – The San Juan Knights outgunned the Bicol Volcanoes throughout and prevailed, 98-69, to tighten their grip of the lead in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League Lakan Season Tuesday at the Mandaluyong Sports Complex.
Hitting their targets from afar, the Knights canned 14 of 32 triple tries for 42 points that proved to be the big difference as the Volcanoes could only tally 5 of 20 attempts for 15 points.
John Wilson again shone for the Knights with 23 points, including five triples, four rebounds and three assists as the MPBL Datu Cup champions silenced the Volcanoes, 94-56, in the fourth quarter before coasting to their fifth win in a row for a 15-1 mark.
Springing to life in the third quarter, the Paranaque Patriots stunned Bacolod Master’s Sardines, 82-78, and gassed up their sputtering playoffs drive.
The Muntinlupa Cagers broke out of a long slump with a 102-90 triumph over the Binan City Laguna Heroes in the nightcap.
With Ryusei Koga, Edzel Mag-Isa and John Kervin Ortuoste scoring 21,20, 20, respectively, the Angelis Resort-backed Cagers ended a nine-game skid and improved to 4-13.
Surging to a 91-73 spread, the Cagers also drew 12 points from Biboy Enguio.
The Heroes, who slid to 6-10, got 25 points from Allan Mangahas, 19 from Mark Anthony Acosta and 13 from Kyle Neypes.
