A motorcycle rider was killed and a UV Express driver was injured in a multiple vehicle collision on Shaw Boulevard in Mandaluyong City yesterday.
Police Col. Remigio Sedanto, city police chief, identified the fatality as Grace Ann Pajemago, 25, of Barangay Barangka Drive, Mandaluyong.
Vehicles that figured in the smashup were two jeepneys, a hatchback, a sedan, a UV Express van, a mid-sized SUV, a Toyota Innova, and the victim’s motorcycle.
Initial investigation showed that the accident happened on the eastbound lane of Shaw Boulevard near Sheridan St. at around 8:15 a.m.
Police said a jeepney descending from Shaw Boulevard flyover driven by Wilfredo Gigante Paylan lost control and mowed down the vehicles in front.
The jeepney sideswiped a sedan and a hatchback before it struck the motorcycle of Pajemago and pinned it on the back of a UV Express van driven by Benjamin Celestra Jr.
Police said Celestra sustained injuries during the incident.
Due to the force of impact, the van sideswiped the mid-size SUV before slamming on the jeepney in front of it.
The jeepney then hit on the rear of the Toyota Innova.
Gigante is now under the custody of Mandaluyong police.
Charges for reckless imprudence resulting to homicide, physical injury, and multiple damages to property will be filed against Gigante, police said. (Jhon Casinas)
