University of the East opened its second round campaign on a positive note by exacting revenge on Adamson, 80-74, in the UAAP men’s basketball tournament Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
Alex Diakhite scattered 23 of his 29 points in the second half to power the Warriors to their third win in eight games. The Senegalese 6-foot-9 center also hauled 13 rebounds and made two blocks.
Rey Suerte celebrated his 24th birthday with in style with 26 points, seven boards, three assists and one block.
UE avenged its 91-80 loss to Adamson in the first round while winning back-to-back games for the first time this season.
The Red Warriors tied the Falcons at 3-5.
“We got lucky today. We got the breaks and the players refused to lose,” said UE active consultant Lawrence Chongson.
UE erased a 50-48 deficit bridging the final period with a 17-6 blast anchored on Diakhite to grab a 65-56 upper hand and dictate the pace for good.
Lenda Douanga scored 16 points and 17 rebounds in 35 minutes while Jerom Lastimosa and Jerrick Ahanmisi chipped in 16 and 11 points in a futile effort for the Falcons. (Kristel Satumbaga)
