BAGUIO CITY – Stretching 7.862 kilometers and held by 1,400 culinary arts students, the Baguio “longganisa” (sausage) was paraded on Session Road here yesterday, highlighting the celebration of the 15th anniversary of the Hotel and Restaurant Association of Baguio.
Organized by the Hotel and Restaurant Association of Baguio, the event surpassed the 3.5-kilometer and six-kilometer long longganisa in 2006 and 2010, respectively.
To illustrate, this year’s longganisa is more than thrice the length of San Juanico Bridge in Leyte, the longest in the country.
HRAB spokesman Andrew Pinero said the third staging of the longest Baguio longganisa was done in partnership with MB Alabanza, a bonafide member of the HRAB.
Pinero said the longganisa was made by eight people who worked 12 hours a day for three weeks at MB Alabanza.
A total of 11,910 dozen were made out from 3,633 kilos of lean pork, 1,300 kilos of garlic, 262 kilos of dry spices, and 71 liters of wet ingredients.
The longganisa was immediately sold to the public after the event.
The annual Hotel and Restaurant Tourism Weekend is an institutionalized private sector-led crowd-drawing event to help the city government market Baguio as a major tourist destination.
Pinero said coronation night for the Search for Mr. and Ms. HRAB will be held today at the Cordillera Convention Hall of the Baguio Country Club.
Hundreds of hospitality industry students and professionals from universities in the Cordillera and Northern Luzon will compete in events on various aspects of the industry in different establishments of HRAB members to enable them to showcase their talents, skills, and knowledge of the trade from Oct. 10 to 12.
