Cloudy skies with scattered rain showers will prevail over parts of Mindanao this weekend due to the trough of typhoon “Hagibis,” which remains outside the country, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration said yesterday.
In its latest weather update issued yesterday morning, PAGASA weather specialist Ezra Bulquerin said the trough or extension of Hagibis will still affect the eastern section of Mindanao, particularly Caraga, Davao region, and Northern Mindanao, bringing cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms.
PAGASA earlier said that Hagibis is no longer expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility and will continue to head towards Japan where it is expected to make a landfall this weekend.
Meanwhile, the northeasterly surface wind flow, or the initial rush of the northeast monsoon or “amihan,” is still the prevailing weather system in the country which may bring slightly cooler weather over Luzon.
In Metro Manila and the rest of the country, partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers is expected due to localized thunderstorms.
The State weather bureau advised residents affected by the trough of Hagibis and localized thunderstorms on possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms. (Alexandria San Juan)
