An 88-year-old lawyer, his daughter and caregiver died during a fire that razed their house in Barangay Blue Ridge A, Quezon City, Friday morning.
Senior Superintendent Jaime Ramirez, Bureau of Fire Protection-Quezon City (BFP-QC) fire marshal, said the fire engulfed the house of lawyer Aquilino Larin at the corner of Raja Matanda Street and Katipunan Avenue in Barangay Blue Ridge A.
Larin along with his daughter Joanna Nadal, 52, and his caregiver Abie Tolop, 35, died when they were trapped on the second floor.
Report showed the blaze started at about 2:13 a.m. in the kitchen at the ground floor of Larin’s two-story house after explosions were heard.
Investigators said the house helper who heard the blast tried to put out the fire using a fire extinguisher but to no avail as the flames quickly spread throughout the house.
The fire was immediately raised to second alarm at around 2:20 a.m. as the blaze reached the second floor where the victims were staying.
The fire lasted for almost an hour before firemen put it out around 3:01 a.m.
The family’s cook, Yolanda Sebrano, 60, sustained second degree burns on her hands, back and right foot.
The estimated damage of the fire was pegged at P300,000.
