Adamson University showed its readiness for the coming UAAP when it blasted University of Santo Tomas, 25-19, 25-6, 25-17, and captured the Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference crown on Saturday at The Arena in San Juan City.
The Lady Falcons were at their best in the second frame – thanks largely to the inspired game of Trisha Genesis and Lucille Almonte to sweep their best-of-three finals affair.
They won in Game 1, 23-25, 25-17, 25-16, 21-25, 15-11.
Genesis fired 14 points built on 10 kills and four aces to be later adjudged the Conference Most Valuable Player and First Best Open Spiker. Setter Louie Romero bagged the Finals MVP with a total of 57 excellent sets and 10 points built on six aces in the finals.
Adamson overpowered UST in attacks (33-22), blocks (12-4), and serves (14-2) and limited EJ Laure to four points for the Tigresses.
Eya Laure was the lone double-digit scorer for UST with 11 points.
Earlier, Ateneo settled for the bronze with a 25-20, 25-14, 22-25, 25-19 win over College of St. Benilde.
Faith Nisperos erupted for 21 points for the Lady Eagles, Jules Samonte added 16, while Ponggay Gaston and Joan Narit chipped in 12 apiece.
Meanwhile, other individual awardees are Nisperos (2nd Best Open Spiker) and Jaja Maraguinot (Best Setter) of Ateneo, Adamson’s Lorene Grace Toring (1st Best Middle Blocker), UST’s Imee Hernandez (2nd Best Middle Blocker), and College of St. Benilde’s Klarisa Abriam (Best Opposite Spiker) and Arianne Daguil (Best Libero).
