World football legend David Beckham made his return to Manila over the weekend for a promotional tour that included a clinic with kids at the McKinley Hill Stadium in Taguig City.
Beckham was joined by Philippine Azkals greats Phil and James Younghusband, Aly Borromeo and Misagh Bahadoran during the clinic attended by kids aged between eight to 12 years old.
“A lot of these kids are too young to remember me as a footballer, but I am sure their moms and dads have told them things about me as a player,” Beckham told ESPN5.
“It’s about setting the right example. It’s something that I really enjoy,” added Beckham.
The former England national team star made his first visit in Dec. 2011 as a member of Major League Soccer side LA Galaxy in a friendly match against the Azkals at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
Beckham’s curling shot that sailed past goalkeeper Ed Sacapano highlighted the Galaxy’s 6-1 win over the Philippine side in front of a crowd of about 15,000.
He returned in Feb. 2014 as a goodwill ambassador for UNICEF, visiting victims of Super Typhoon Yolanda in Tacloban City. (Jonas Terrado)
