University of Santo Tomas swingman Rhenz Abando is not going anywhere.
Abando, who was reportedly getting offers from other rival schools, didn’t suit up in their 84-78 win against University of the Philippines last Wednesday, raising speculation that he will be moving out of the
España lair.
During that game, he was in civilian clothes.
Also on that day, UST coach Aldin Ayo refused to comment on the development while Abando politely declined interviews after the game.
But on Thursday, all rumors were silenced as Abando chose to commit to UST.
“Abando will stay in UST,” Ayo told the Varsitarian, UST’s official student publication, after a “one-on-one” meeting Thursday afternoon
The rising star from La Union is averaging 11.8 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 1.3 blocks in 11 games.
Ayo also confirmed to the publication that at least two UAAP schools are trying to recruit Abando in the middle of the season.
Reports added that Abando will finally play on Saturday against cellar-dweller the National University Bulldogs (2-9) at the Ynares Gym in Antipolo as UST hopes to solidify its solo third ranking with a 6-5 win-loss record. (Jan Carlo Anolin)
