NEWLY-CROWNEDÂ champion Ceres-Negros aims to complete the first unbeaten season in the modern era when it plays Kaya-Iloilo in the final match of the 2019 Philippines Football League season on Saturday at the Aboitiz Pitch in Lipa City, Batangas.
Kickoff is set at 4 p.m. with the Busmen hoping to put a fitting conclusion to the season highlighted by a 16-match winning streak, a third straight PFL crown and a fourth title in top-flight league competition in the last five years.
Ceres will be handed the trophy in a ceremony after the match.
Looking to prevent the Busmen from making history is Kaya, which hopes to use the match as a key preparation for its defense of the Copa Paulino Alcantara which starts later this month.
Kaya is one of eight teams that will join the Copa, including the national U-22 team that will participate in the 30th Southeast Asian Games.
The Copa draw is slated Sunday at the office of the Philippine Football Federation. (Jonas Terrado)
