Newly-installed ornate lamp posts that line Jones Bridge in Manila are catching the attention of commuters and pedestrians.
The street lights were reportedly designed and built by Jerry Acuzar, the architect behind Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar in Bataan. He was hired by the City’s administrator as consultant.
Manila Mayor Isko Moreno earlier said that Chinese businessmen gave him P20 million to rehabilitate the bridge near a heritage site in Pasig River.
The rehabilitation is part of Manila administration’s push to preserve the city’s historical sites.
While commuters are amazed by the design, some netizens expressed concern over the city government’s capability to secure the lamp posts from vandals and thieves.
“Let’s see how long those lamp posts last before it gets cannibalized,” netizen Robert Po said.
