LOS BANOS, Laguna – Reigning MVP winner Chloe Daos of Ateneo continued her dominance, raising her gold medal collection to four in the UAAP swimming competition on Friday at the at Trace Aquatics Center here.
The prodigious junior swimmer topped the 400m freestyle in 4:42.37 and the 100m butterfly in 1:03.35 to boost her bid for a second straight MVP title.
By collecting two more golds, Daos now has 60 points in the MVP race.
Erin Castrillo of University of the Philippines finished second in the 100m butterfly while Suzanne Himor also of Ateneo wound up third (1:07.44.).
In winning the 400m freestyle, Daos also beat UP’s Nadine Tee Ten, who clocked
4:48.99, while La Salle’s Nichole Evangelista settled for third in 4:49.63.
Evangelista, who is currently tied for second in the MVP race with 40 points, also took the silver medal in the 50m breaststroke after touching at 36.35 seconds. Ateneo’s rookie Rona Lalimo emerged victorious in that event with a time of 35.08 seconds. UP’s Alyssa Pogiongko was third.
Meantime, La Salle’s Nikki Pamintuan ruled the 200m backstroke with a time of 2:28.53.
It was a fitting follow-up to her gold winning effort in the 200m individual medley.
With Andrea Ngui anchoring Ateneo’s 400m freestyle relay, the Lady Eagles bested the Lady Maroons for the gold.
The other members of the victorious UP team were Himor, rookies Portia Doragos and Marjorie Manguiat.
Overall, Ateneo now has 213 points, way ahead of UP’s 156 and La Salle’s 120.
In men’s side, La Salle is leading the way – thanks to Sacho Ilustre who topped the 400m freestyle and 100m butterly.
