House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano led the House of Representatives in extending its sympathies to the bereaved family of former Senate President Aquilino “Nene” Pimentel Jr.
“We, members of the 18th Congress, are deeply saddened by the demise of former Senate President Aquilino ‘Nene’ Pimentel Jr.,” he said in a statement.
Cayetano described the late senator as “a Filipino statesman and a stalwart advocate for federalism.”
He said Pimentel is one of his “inspiring examples” as a public servant, having personally worked with him in the Senate.
“I am witness to his professionalism and his commitment to duties. He is one of the inspiring examples to me and all our public servants. It was truly a pleasure and honor to work with you,” Cayetano, a former senator, said.
He said Pimentel’s contribution as the “Father of the Local Government Code” is “invaluable and will be forever remembered.”
“Filipinos here and around the world enjoin us in thanking the outstanding senator in his long-standing service to the country guided by his steadfast integrity and nationalism,” Cayetano said.
“The 18th Congress pays tribute to former Senate President Pimentel. Thank you for service to the nation,” he said. (Charissa L. Atienza)
