Temperatures are expected to drop in the coming days as the State weather bureau yesterday announced that the northeast monsoon or “amihan” season has officially started.
Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Service Administration Administrator Dr. Vincent Malano said strong to gale force northeasterly winds have prevailed over the seaboards of Northern Luzon due to the strengthening of the high pressure system over Siberia.
Manalo added that there is a gradual cooling of the surface air temperature over the northeastern part of Luzon.
“These meteorological conditions indicate the onset of northeast monsoon or ‘amihan’ season in the country,” Malano stated.
The amihan is the weather system associated with the Yuletide season. This replaces the southwest monsoon or “habagat” which ended early October.
With the start of the amihan season, public can expect cooler and drier days ahead as the northeast wind flow will become dominant over most parts of the country. (Alexandria San Juan)
